Anumol Aravindakshan completed Web-Based Technologies course with Upskilled. He had a personal interest in studying the course and found his course experience a pleasant one. Despite hesitation of undertaking online learning, his trainer supported him throughout his studies, which helped him stay encouraged to finish his course successfully.
In this Q&A, we learn more about Anumol's favourite aspects of the course, what it was like working with his trainer and his advice for future students thinking about studying the Web-Based Technologies course.
Why did you decide to study Web-Based Technologies?
I wanted to learn and explore the process of website making. I had contacted Upskilled to study for the Website Development diploma but was recommended the Web-Based Technologies course instead. It was my own personal interest that motivated me to study this course.
You already have a Masters of Computer Applications. Do you feel like the Web-Based Technologies course complemented your previous study?
I worked in Oracle-based development for almost 9 years. Learning web-based technologies was out of interest. While the area of study did not complement my field of work, the assessments focusing on databases were related.
What skills and knowledge have you developed from the course?
I must admit, I developed knowledge in the following:
- How a website is created
- The technologies and tools commonly used
- Hosting a website
- Website security measures
- Website policies
I am still learning and need to practise more to get extensive knowledge. I am confident in the skills I’ve learned from this course, especially in HTML, CSS3 and Javascript.
How will this course help you find work in the IT field?
I’m not sure about it but I’m trying hard to get an internship to get more exposure. This course and its content is changing with time and with new technologies coming into place. I believe that getting a job is not so difficult if we keep ourselves updated in our skills and knowledge.
What were your favourite aspects of the course?
My favorite part of this course was creating my own website with my own ideas using HTML and learning how to arrange and display the website using CSS and Javascript. I also enjoyed the analytics part because I could check how many hits we received on our websites.
How did your trainer support you throughout your studies?
My trainer Matthew Roderick supported me and was mostly available when I needed him. At first, I was hesitant because I thought there wouldn’t be much support because the course is online. However, Matthew was always available and showed me better ways to learn the topics and finish the assessments.
I was lagging behind in some of the coursework but I managed to move forward due to his encouraging responses. I’d like to thank Matthew for helping me throughout the course.
What advice would you like to share to students wanting to do the course?
Web-Based Technologies is a course that must be completed with interest. Students who are creative and wish to do something to show their talent to the world can learn and display this through the different creative technologies. This course gives the foundation to that dream path.
